Hey!
Welcome to my Substack. It’s great having you here.
Maybe you’ve followed me here from Instagram (@helloitsjordansmith) or maybe you found me accidentally through the almighty algorithm. Either way, I’m so excited to start this journey of sharing recipes and other words with you on a regular basis.
For some background, I’m a baker/recipe developer living and working in Brooklyn, NY. I moved here last year and before this spent time living in San Francisco, Michigan, and Alabama - where I was born and raised.
I went to school for Studio Art (sculpture/ceramics) but became very connected to cooking and baking during grad school and made the leap into the food world shortly after graduating. Since then I’ve worked and learned at several bakeries while also starting my career as a recipe developer.
I’m starting this Substack/newsletter as a space to share new recipes and longer form writing about the winding path that leads to a successful recipe. While I’m no scientist, I do enjoy sharing the why/how we follow recipes the way we do. I’ve accumulated a lot of knowledge from the places I’ve worked and the many books I’ve collected and read. I’d love to help you reach your baking goals and feel comfortable baking more often.
My approach to baking is seasonal. (within reason - frozen fruit is an unsung hero of modern times) Many of my favorite ingredients are globally inspired but with respect paid to sourcing and a nod to an ingredient’s cultural and agricultural histories. I believe recipes can be approachable while still being visually arresting. I’ll provide everything from one-bowl weeknight situations to longer project style bakes for you to enjoy and share with anyone who asks for a slice :)
We are just so ecstatic this newsletter exists!!
Huge fan of your instagram posts so very much looking forward to read your newsletter!
